Building for What Comes Next.

We each inherited a world already in motion. Together, we pass it forward. This letter sets out my perspective on that continuity and the contribution Brigatt will make.

Brigatt is being developed through two distinct but related institutions: Brigatt International and The Brigatt Institute of Culture, Art & Technology. (BICAT) Their relationship is the Dual-System Concord, or DSC. Brigatt International builds commercial capability and brings expressions to market. BICAT cultivates cultural inquiry, preserves memory, and contributes long-term direction. Together, they are designed to bring commerce and cultural stewardship into a more productive relationship.

I use the term Expressionist Consumer to describe an emerging orientation in consumer goods. Globalization has brought more cultures, references, and products into contact. It has expanded access, while also accelerating sameness. The Expressionist Consumer seeks goods that do more than serve a function or signal status: they offer a coherent expression of identity and of the worlds a person chooses to inhabit.

Most consumer categories begin with an object and add identity afterward. A familiar process where a standard fragrance receives a story and a garment receives a campaign. A brand then assembles visual codes and invites the observer to perceive the result as a world.

We are reversing that direction.

Brigatt begins with the world. From that world comes an organizing meaning; from meaning, an identity; from identity, an aesthetic language; and from that language, the object. The object does not simply carry identity as a styling affectation. It gives identity true material form.

This is why Brigatt is an Expressionist Maison. Expression is its defining pursuit; luxury goods and digital technologies are among its mediums. Fragrance is the Maison’s first expression: the entry point into the brand universe.

I chose fragrance as the starting point because scent is closely bound to identity and reaches perception before full interpretation. It is atmospheric: intimate yet shared, composed yet changed by each person who wears it. Fragrance makes the relationship between identity, aesthetics, and experience tangible.

That relationship led me to a broader understanding of the aesthetic. Language interprets reality. Perception shapes how reality appears to us, and aesthetics shapes perception. This movement is recursive: what becomes perceptible enters language; language reorganizes interpretation; and interpretation changes what we can imagine and create. Aesthetics, in this sense, functions as interface technology. It does more than make things appealing. It makes meaning sensible. It directs attention, creates atmosphere, establishes legibility, and carries identity from inward experience into shared life.

That power carries responsibility. Beauty can reveal truth or conceal power. Taste can express cultivated intelligence or reproduce exclusion while presenting itself as natural. A coherent world can expand possibility or become closed around its own assumptions. For this reason, the architecture required principles that govern purpose and protect integrity.

Amor Prima Causa; Love as First Cause is Brigatt’s founding principle. It asks what our creation serves and requires our growing capabilities to remain accountable for their consequences.

The Coherence Principle is our charter of integrity. It protects identity, authorship, and purpose through transformation. Coherence does not require visual sameness. It asks that each expression remain faithful to its organizing meaning as it enters a different form.

The Dual-System Concord governs the relationship between our institutions. Brigatt International develops products, capital, reach, infrastructure, and commercial trust. BICAT develops cultural intelligence, memory, inquiry, patronage, and long-term direction. Their relationship must be reciprocal: commercial capability can support cultural work, while cultural inquiry can inform the Maison’s judgment and future expressions. Each institution has a distinct purpose, and the Concord exists to help them strengthen one another without collapsing into one.

The proposition is simple to state and demanding to build: capital generation in service of preservation; desire in service of meaning.

Brigatt begins as a Maison. Its first expressions are proof that this architecture can take material form. The Institute represents a longer commitment: to cultivate the conditions in which culture, technology, and human possibility can develop together. This is a lifelong undertaking. Its scale must be earned through the precision of what we create, the trust of those who encounter it, and the integrity with which one expression can grow into a coherent world.

The future is shaped collectively, but collective work requires institutions and infrastructure that make participation possible. My responsibility is to help build them.

With sincerity and a lasting love of art,
